Birmingham Veterans PTSD Lawyers

Our lawyers are active advocates for U.S. military veterans suffering from all types of service-related mental and physical conditions and in need of disability benefits. This includes victims of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and bipolar disorder related to any military experience as well as Vietnam veterans exposed to the toxic herbicide Agent Orange.

Applying for veterans disability benefits can be a complex and frustrating challenge due to certain inefficiencies within the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and lack of clarity in eligibility criteria. Successfully appealing denials of veterans disability compensation claims often requires counsel from a qualified, experienced attorney. Essentially, it is necessary to demonstrate that:

  • You have a mental or physical condition severe enough to be "rated" as a full or partial disability
  • This medical problem originated during your time in the service or can be connected to events or conditions related to that service

Birmingham Veterans PTSD Attorneys With Extensive Claim Appeals Experience

Many veterans struggle for years or decades with PTSD in the hope that symptoms ranging from flashbacks to general anxiety and inability to focus will ease. In recent years the impacts of PTSD have become more widely understood, and many veterans have succeeded with disability claims whether or not they saw direct combat.

If you have been unjustly denied veterans disability compensation for military post-traumatic stress disorder, bipolar disorder, severe clinical depression or another psychological condition, our lawyers are prepared to analyze your claim and build the best possible case for success at a hearing or on appeal.

Action for Veterans Harmed by Agent Orange Exposure

U.S. veterans' Agent Orange exposure in Vietnam has now been linked to a vast spectrum of diseases, including:

  • Numerous types of lymphoma, sarcoma, leukemia, myeloma, lung and liver cancer, Hodgkin's disease and other cancers
  • Type 2 diabetes, porphyria, peripheral neuropathy, Parkinson's disease, ischemic heart disease and other heart diseases

We can work to obtain qualified medical opinions and establish your Agent Orange or other toxic herbicide exposure in Vietnam.

Veteran's Compensation Benefits FAQs

1. What are Veteran's Compensation Benefits?

Veteran's Compensation Benefits are intended to compensate veterans who have a medical or psychological condition that is connected to their military service. In general, three elements are necessary to prove a case:
1) A current medical or psychological condition, and
2) An event or condition that occurred during military service, and
3) A connection between the current condition and the event or condition during military service.

2. How do I file a claim?

There are three ways to file a claim:
1) If the claim is a new one, you may file an initial application with the VA Regional Office nearest you.
2) If the claim has been filed previously, but denied, you may file a request to reopen the claim. You will need "new and material" evidence to request reopening.
3) If you are already receiving VA benefits, you can request an increased rating.
